"Why would you give that NIGGER an alibi?" Words from lead dics on Baseline task team.
(Phoenix Law Enforcement Association memo)
"I wholeheartly support your cause and proving Mark's innocence in the very new future. I can't imagine the stress and utmost horror the two of you have had to endure over this issue and wish there was something people could do to not have any other families face the same fate, as we both know it happens daily around the world.
Between your site and the newclippings I have read on the Internet, I have not seen a shred of evidence and as you clearly added on your site, very similar occurances continue... if HE is the one I can only assume the authorities think there is a copycat or a partner out there? What sense would that make except to use as an excuse and offer up Mark as a scapegoat to avoid further investigating the crimes he's charged with.
It's not a matter of me seeing the truth, it's that i DO NOT see any guilt or "real" evidence being provided to those that are interested in it. granted the police withhold items from the media and save it for court, but usually/typically SOMETHING incriminating is released and I don't see it."

"I don't believe that Mark is the Baseline anything!!!! I have known Mark Goudeau since we were children. In our Pop Warner days he was a good player and teammate, always fun to be around, never in trouble or a troublemaker, actually one of the most well-behaved guys on the team....In fact he became one of my mom's favorite, because of his good manners!!! In high School, at Corona Del Sol the same is true, he became an exceptional athlete on a good football team and finished in good standing. But most of all , I remember Mark at church, where we both attended on a regular basis as teenagers, Mark is not nor has he ever been this MONSTER, he is being portrayed as. There are many people, respectable people, who question if the police have the right person! And I am one of them! Lets all remember that in our great Country, you are presumed innocent until PROVEN guilty!"

"What continues to amaze me about Mark and his situation is just how close we all are to becoming entangled in the legal system as he is. Are we all one step away from arrest? Or worse, has a certain class of citizenry become suspect?"

"I am disappointed in our system and how they have treated you and Mark. I just can’t believe how they can nationally portray Mark as the “Baseline Killer” when they haven’t even provided any evidence, nor has he been convicted of the crime. I guess “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t apply if you happen to look like a sketch of a person they are after. The way this has been handled not only caused an unnecessary frenzy in the media, it violated Mark’s rights by not allowing due process to take place."

It's chilling when a suspect is, immediately upon his arrest, branded guilty by a public official as visible as the Mayor. I fear that the public pressure for an arrest in this case may have created an urgency that over-rode all else. This is the kind of thing that happens in other communities, other countries, but not here. Right? Mark's trial-in-the-media is frightening. Thankfully the police sketches didn't look like me...or you.

I always believed in our justice system. I was taught that if you told the truth, even a misunderstanding would be rectified if you let the system work. When I was called to jury duty, the judge would elaborate about not presuming guilt until you’ve heard all of the testimony. Above all, the defendant is “innocent until proven guilty.” Well then, how can Mark get a fair trial when Attorney General Andrew Thomas and Mayor Phil Gordon go on television and say without a doubt, they have found their man and a “monster” is off the streets? This when there hasn’t even been a trial. I believe that Mark has been set up. I don’t believe that he is guilty of the first initial arrest and that is how they linked him to the follow-up arrests that were portrayed as the “Baseline Killer.” It has been said that the sexual assault case is a DNA case. The prosecution was to get the DNA evidence to the defense in a timely manner. The judge as well as the lead prosecutor decided that a two week window would be ample time and yet the DNA evidence was not forthcoming for several weeks, thereby causing an additional five month delay in going to trial. Meanwhile, Mark sits in jail for a crime they don’t have sufficient evidence to convict him on. The delays keep coming so they can hold an innocent man in jail while they try to build a case against him and satiate a public that had been terrified by serial shooters and the real Baseline Killer.

Anyone who is at all familiar with Mark Goudeau would know that the notion of him being the "BASELINE KILLER" is incomprehensible. However the Phoenix police being under pressure and duress to solve the crimes, have I truly believe, made the biggest and most egregious mistake ever. Not only have they made "the pieces fit" so to speak, but they made such a media circus around his arrest, that the chances of this man ever getting a fair and balanced trial are slim to none. Remember, people of Phoenix, that there but for the grace of God go you or I. This is an innocent man and most appalling of all, is that the real killer is still out there.

Innately happy, always in a good mood, thoughtful and caring, that is Mark. I know him better than anyone else in this world.
Police would like everyone to believe that he is a monster and have used past accusations to publicly lynch him through the media. Reality is Mark was in the wrong place at the wrong time in the first case, that he made some poor judgments and that his involvement in the incident was overblown by the prosecution. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that he made poor judgments in the case, and served his debt with honor and distinction. That first conviction is what made him an easy target for the overwrought police to target him as a suspect in the Baseline incidents, knowing that they had someone who loosely fit the description of the assailant.
They compound the injustice by not only charging an innocent man but also by endangering the lives of other innocent victims with the Baseline Killer off the hook and free to continue to harm others. They are the monsters. The evidence presented in court will speak the truth, not the lies and exaggerated claims of DNA evidence by the police and county attorney.
Mark is not guilty of a single crime. We look forward to the day he comes home.
