The Mullins Syndrom . . . .

If you didn't already know this, the county attorney has already tried to prosecute two other people for Baseline crimes - James Mullins and Danney Walker.  James Mullins, was indicted for one of the crimes linked to the Baseline attacks.  Problem being Mr. Mullins had never even been to Arizona and only knew of the crime from a feature on the Maury Povich Show while incarcerated in a Kentucky jail.   But why should those details get in the way?  Well they didn't and Mr. Mullins was indicted by our local police.  This blundering and absurd attempt of arresting someone out of sheer desperation is featured in Paul Rubin's Phoenix New Times article "I Dunnit", September 21, 2006.  Following is an excerpt of a reader's comments from the Phoenix New Times article by Paul Rubin.

"Super duper: I would like to start off with huge kudos to Paul Rubin for a wonderfully written piece of journalism with his "I Dunnit" article (September 21). Now that the back-end kissing is over, how in God's name could a veteran homicide detective with 20 years of experience get duped into a confession as fake as my left eye (I do in fact have a prosthetic left eye)?!"

"Presumed guilty: The statement by former Arizona attorney general Grant Woods in your "I Dunnit" story was amazing. That is, where he said that even though cops and prosecutors came to know that James Mullins was lying about killing Georgia Thompson, the County Attorney's Office still could have convicted Mullins of the crime. No problem."

"F@#!!g chilling is what this really is, because these guys (Woods had been named special prosecutor in the trumped-up Mullins case) could convict anybody if they set their mind to it, and probably have, even when they know the dude didn't do it. "

The Floating Garbage Barge

No doubt, Phoenix police were under enormous pressure to charge somebody with the so-called Baseline crimes.  The national media even had hold of the stories last year of Phoenix experiencing two, and maybe even three, serial killers.  Something needed to be done!  So the police and task team worked long hours for months to get this thing solved.   According to an Arizona Republic article printed last December "They were in a race to find the person who had become the city's most prolific serial killer" . . . .flipping "their lives upside down".. . . "Officers wondering how long this would go on."  How could they continue working like this?

Pressure, long hours, missing families, our police were fried, fraught and fallible.  They just wanted this all to end so they could rejoin their families and stop the long hours of work.  The pressure was unbearable -especially after their screw up with the James Mullins' indictment last year.

Enter the arrest of Mark Goudeau.  A man who loosely fits their profile and who lives in the area where many of the crimes were committed.  Whew!  Their job is done.   But is it?  The rush to charge Mark is out of nothing more than complete weariness and desperation, nothing else.  It's a floating garbage barge.  The evidence is unstable and has no legs, is floating aimlessly, and it smells.

This could happen to you!

Crimes Continue

People have asked; how do we explain that the crimes have stopped since Mark’s arrest?  If this wasn’t so horrific on so many levels, it would be comical.

I once asked a reporter for The Arizona Republic how and where they got information for the news stories and he told me that they “rely on the police” to give them details.  He could tell by the look on my face I was surprised to hear this, after all don’t reporters research and verify facts independent of the police?  Is investigative reporting an oxymoron? “Well” he said, “we have to rely on them for information.”

And there it is.  The police tell the media what they want us to hear (and don’t tell the media what they don’t want us hear.)  It’s a manipulation and people want to believe the monster has been caught, so we allow ourselves to be manipulated.  People only believe what they want to believe, and they don’t want to believe that the police have screwed up and that an innocent person has been charged with the Baseline crimes (see The Mullins Syndrome on this site.)  The Baseline crimes do continue and if people would think for themselves and not rely on the news as a way to educate themselves they would realize that.

The police will NEVER attribute the ongoing rapes, assaults, robberies and murders to the Baseline crimes since that would undermine their theory against Mark   The State and police, the county attorney, and mayor would rather devour their own children than admit they’ve made a mistake.  While city officials and politicians pound their chests and pander to the crowds the insidiousness of the rush to charge Mark is that not only do the victims and victims’ families feel a false sense of justice but the person who actually committed these crimes is still out there.

The items below are just a sample of the short blurbs in the news that never have follow up stories.
